Sydney Opera House introduces new competition Dance Rites on 22 November.

Today Sydney Opera House has announced a new national Indigenous dance competition.

Dance Rites will take place on 22 November at the Western Broadwalk, Sydney Opera House. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from across Australia are invited to enter, with first prize $15,000 and the chance to perform at annual Indigenous culture festival Homeground in 2016.

As part of the competition, dance groups will perform a welcome and farewell dance, one of which includes a chant in local language, and a third dance of their choosing.
