Vic Government To Fund Soundproofing Works In Live Music Venues Throughout The State

Melbourne's already-booming live music scene is about to get a massive boost with today's news that the Andrews Labor Government will cover $250,000 in grants to cover costs for soundproofing works in six of the state's most popular live music venues. 

According to the Premier Of Victoria website. Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming & Regulation Jane Garrett announced that Victorian venues are now allowed to apply for support through the Live Music Assistance Program. 

The six venues to receive soundproofing works, which will include the installation of acoustic insulation, are Richmond's Bakehouse Studios, Bendigo Hotel, Melbourne's iconic Cherry Bar, Ding Dong Lounge, 1000 Pound Bend and Revolver Upstairs.

Grant recipients will be reimbursed for the works completed or contracted between 4 September 2010 and 4 September 2014.

Recipients also include venues where a nearby residential development received a planning permit before the Agent Of Change Principle was introduced but construction was not started before 4 September 2010.

Garrett says the Government is proud to solidify Victoria as the country's live music state. 

"Our live music venues are world class and they draw musicians and tourists from around the world," Garrett said.

"These sound proofing grants will allow neighbours to enjoy peace and quiet at home and still embrace the vibrancy of where they live."

Speaking to theMusic, CEO of Music Victoria Patrick Donovan said, "We are thrilled that the state government has committed this money to support some of our small venues and studios that are the heartbeat of the live industry."
