Is it that bad?

The Advertising Standards Bureau has advised Melbourne singer Emily Ulman that they have received a number of complaints in regards to her recently-designed album launch poster which depicts a cartoon drawing of two men groping each other’s genitals.

The Bureau has confirmed to theMusic that the complaints received were filed by people who are offended by the sexual imagery in the poster.

However speaking exclusively to theMusic, Ulman said she was surprised by the complaints.

“For me, it’s a work of art,” Ulman said.

“I definitely didn't intend to offend anyone and I don’t think it’s breaching any advertising laws.”

Ulman also revealed that the poster gets reported each time she shares the image on Facebook, though it has never been taken down which she believes is because it does not violate community standards.

Ironically, Ulman must respond to the ASB by 19 November, just one night after the album launch for her record Wear It Well takes place at The Gasometer Hotel.

The news comes just two weeks after the Yarra City Council removed a sexually graphic film poster from council property because of its explicit depiction of an ejaculating penis.
