Parkway Drive Beat Disclosure & CHVRCHES To #1 On ARIA Albums Chart

It's been a bumper day for Byron-bred metalcore heroes Parkway Drive — not only did they see their new album, Ire, crack the top five on two separate charts in the UK overnight, but they've managed to fend off challenges from Disclosure and CHVRCHES to take out the #1 position on this week's ARIA Albums Chart.

The international acts are hot on their heels, though, with Disclosure's Caracal claiming #2 and CHVRCHES' Every Open Eye stepping out at #3, both ahead of a slightly resurgent Taylor Swift — 1989's up from #5 to #4 — with last week's top placeholder, Lana Del Rey's Honeymoon, dropping to close out the top five. Fellow previous top-three entrant That's The Spirit, by Bring Me The Horizon, also dips to #6.

Pierce Brothers are also among the debuts this week, with Into The Dirt hitting a solid placing at #10 on entry, with Fetty Wap's self-titled not too far behind at #13. The nation still digs Maroon 5 enough to have helped Singles Collection enter at #19, the first of a run of consecutive debuts: New Order (Music Complete), The Dead Weather (Dodge & Burn), Silversun Pickups (Better Nature) and Don Henley (Cass County) take out #20-#23 respectively. On the lower end, but still inside the top 30, Falls Festival drawcard Kurt Vile enters at #27 with b'lieve i'm goin' down, while Robin Schulz closes out the week's fresh listings inside the top 50 with Sugar at #31, though Aussie troubadour Ash Grunwald does very nearly make the top-half cut — Now makes its debut at #52.

On the singles ladder, the ever-reliable Sia also makes the week's strongest entry with Alive at #10 this week, while Perth faves Birds Of Tokyo make a decent run with I'd Go With You Anywhere, stepping out at #40. RUFUS also make another new entry to the charts, though below the halfway point, as Like An Animal makes its debut at #57.

Way up the pointy end, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis jump up to #1 with Downtown, featuring Eric Nally, Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee and Grandmaster Caz, while Justin Bieber drops a spot to #2 with What Do You Mean? However, despite being just outside the top 30 on the Albums chart, Robin Schulz's title track Sugar, featuring Francesco Yates, fares much stronger in the Singles ladder, rising up to #3 from 11 last week, though it's Jessica Mauboy who makes the week's most impressive move, with This Ain't Love leaping astronomically up the charts from #75 to #8.
