Lauded US troubadour Kurt Vile is expanding his Australian visit beyond this year's Falls Music & Arts Festival with a pair of headline sideshow appearances in Sydney and Melbourne with backing band The Violators early next year.

The former War On Drugs stringsmith and his posse of instrumentalists will kick off their new year of standalone shows with a performance at the Forum Theatre, in Melbourne, on Sunday 3 January, with support from stalwart locals Twerps and Scott & Charlene's Wedding, before heading up to take on the grand stage of the Sydney Opera House on Thursday 7 January.

Tickets for Kurt Vile & The Violators' Melbourne show are on sale now via Ticketmaster; passes for the Sydney show go on general sale from 9am next Thursday 8 October, but presales for Opera House Insiders go on sale from Tuesday 6 October, with Opera House Inhouse e-news subscribers getting the next run from Wednesday 7 October.

The visit comes fresh in the wake of new LP b'lieve i'm goin down..., and with Vile being one of the bigger drawcards headed to Falls and Southbound this year, you'll be wanting to move quickly to ensure you get to experience the new live show in the flesh.
