Alan Jones Slams Lockouts: 'They've Sucked The Life Out Of The City'

And Queensland's next.

He's known for his candid and sometimes outlandish comments but national radio jock Alan Jones has spoken for many disgruntled Aussies today when he blasted Sydney's lockouts laws live on air upon the news that Queensland are set to adopt the same policies throughout the state.

"They've sucked the life out of the city," Jones said during his 2GB morning program.

"King's Cross is now a ghost town. Venues have had to shut, and people are out of work."

In the last few months a number of popular Sydney clubs and bars have been forced to close their doors since the laws were introduced last year due to massive declines in revenue, including Hugos LoungeLansdowne Hotel, The Spice Cellar and many more.

"All it does it force drunks out onto the street and into the suburbs," Jones continued.

"It doesn't stop the violence, it just moves it."

A number of rallies will be held throughout Queensland this Saturday, following in the footsteps of Sydneysiders who staged their own protest against the lockouts last weekend.

Interestingly, a study by the University Of Adelaide conducted last month found that lockout laws may not be the reason alcohol-related violence has decreased, while in 2010, one criminology expert labelled the 3:00am lockouts a complete, absolute 100% failure'.
