And now we know.

We just jumped out of BIGSOUND's Milestones In Heavy Music panel and we thought we'd share some of the advice from the speakers that we considered gems.

Facilitated by photographer Kane Hibberd, panellists included Eli Chamravi of Wild Thing Presents, Andy Farrow of Northern Music Co., Luke Logemann of UNFD, Trad Nathan, owner of Crowbar and Rebecca Reato of Deathproof Presents.

Here are our top 10 tips:

one

"Keep the loyalty going. If you've toured with a band before once or twice, keep in touch. Keep the relationship going." - Eli Chamravi

two

"To gain fans, get a support slot on a tour where you think you can steal fans." - Andy Farrow

three

"The Facebook algorithm works best when you post once a day, then highlight or boost it." - Eli

four

"Go watch bands in your genre, talk to label people." - Trad Nathan

five

"Share a tour bus with a band touring Europe, offer to pay half their tour bus costs, then try to make money from merch." - Andy

six

"You have more worth when negotiating if you're big in Australia before you try overseas. Have a strong home market." - Eli

seven

"People still love black tees, but know your fan base. Make shirts for ladies. Some countries need bigger sizes - Germany for example are a little bigger. And there's always a few people in the US who want XXL..." - Andy

eight

"Look after the money side of things, keep track of your accounts. When the bands finally quit they're gonna need superannuation and other things..." - Luke Logemann

nine

"When you spend money on PR, make sure you're ready and have done a bit of it yourself." - Rebecca Reato

ten

"Don't CC in a bunch of other venues and people when you're trying to book a gig with a venue. Be direct and specific." — Trad
