Tex Perkins Calls Out Blabbermouth Punter At Hobart Gig

"Excuse me, can you shut the fuck up?"

It would seem that we are approaching an era of no longer tolerating other people's inconsiderate bullshit at gigs, after veteran Aussie performer Tex Perkins became the latest in a swiftly growing line of musicians to call out an audience member for less-than-polite conduct, during a gig with his band The Dark Horses in Hobart at the weekend.

Performing in the Tassie capital as part of his current tour in honour of recent full-length Tunnel At The End Of The Light, the band were all of three songs into their set at the Republic Bar when, according to The Music reviewer Rhys Anderson, Perkins stopped "midway through a lyric and addresse[d] a lady near the front" over her show-going etiquette.

"Excuse me, can you shut the fuck up?" Perkins is reported to have said. "Or move to the back of the room? All I can hear is, 'nyahayhahnahayh'.

"Just tone it the fuck down, please, or at least turn around to face the stage."

And then, palpably deflated: "Can I ask that the first two rows listen to the band? Everyone else do whatever the fuck you want."

Having said his piece, Perkins and his band returned to the matter at hand and completed their set without further incident, but hopefully yet another example of someone else's bad behaviour not being accepted by performers on stage does something to help you reconsider your own actions while you're at a show.

You know, when you're supposed to be paying attention to the person on-stage, pouring their hearts out, instead of gabbing on and on about the fact that nobody has any manners these days because people wouldn't voluntarily move out of the way for you and your eight latecomer friends who decided to daisy-chain their way up to the front well after everyone else had found their spot and stuck with it, Danielle.
