Aus '80s TV Star Charged With Child Sex Offences

Australian actress Maggie Kirkpatrick, best known for her role in '80s soap opera Prisoner, has been charged with child sex offences. 

As Fairfax reports, the 74-year-old has been charged with two counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency with a person under the age of 16. 

It has been reported that the alleged incident occurred in the '80s and involved a 13-year-old girl.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman has confirmed that Kirkpatrick will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 19 August.

Kirkpatrick has said that she will be fighting the charges: "I need to go to court to have this ridiculous situation quashed." 

"Allegations have been levelled at me, yes. Are they true? Absolutely not," Kirkpatrick said. 

"The evidence is in the court. I don't think it's appropriate that I say any more."

The actress also appeared on a number of popular Aussie shows including Blue HeelersHome & Away and Hey Dad! which her co-star Robert Hughes was found guilty of child sex offences just last year. 

Hughes is currently serving a jail sentence of ten years and nine months.
