Splendour Promoter Says He Won't Be Telling Blur What To Play

But playing 'Song 2' would be great.

UK rock group Blur claim that no music festivals would book them if they didn't play their classic hit Song 2, but ahead of their appearance at this weekend's Splendour In The Grass, festival director Paul Piticco says what they play is none of his business.

As NME reports, drummer Dave Rowntree said in an interview with XFM: "You know, if we didn't play Song 2 we'd never get invited to a festival again."

However speaking to theMusic, Piticco claims that is not the case with the band's Splendour appearance.

"I think there’d be a great disappointment if they didn't play [Song 2] but they’re the artist, so far be it from me to tell them how to construct their setlist," Piticco says.

Piticco also believes that the high quality sets that Blur have recently been performing overseas would not be hindered if the 1997 hit song wasn't played.

"There is hit after hit after hit…" he said of Blur's music.

"It certainly wouldn't affect how awesome their set would be in any way, because they've got a massive catalogue of songs to play."

It should be noted that Blur's recent performances at their overseas shows have featured Song 2 in the majority of the setlists.

Blur will head to Australia this Saturday for a performance in Sydney, followed by their headline set at Splendour in Byron Bay the following night.
