Pub Baron Justin Hemmes To Take Over Coogee Pavilion

An ongoing legal dispute has finally come to an end today with famous club and pub owner Justin Hemmes set to formally take over the popular Coogee Pavilion venue in Sydney. 

As Sydney Morning Herald reports, the NSW Supreme Court heard that Hemmes and soon-to-be ex landlord David Kingston had reached an "in-principle settlement" which sees the ownership of the three-story venue "transferred" to Hemmes. 

According to court documents, Hemmes, who already owns a number of Sydney bars and clubs including Ivy, Establishment and The Newport Arms, bought the hotel from Kingston in March last year for $37 million dollars.

After changing the hotel name from Beach Palace to Coogee Pavilion and pouring $12 million into refurbishments, Hemmes did what he is renowned for and reportedly doubled the venue's value. 

However, soon after Kingston claimed that not only had Hemmes undertaken unauthorised building works, but that he was also behind in rent. 

In response, Hemmes sought a Supreme Court injunction and claimed that Kingston had engaged in "deceptive and misleading conduct" however it is understood that both parties have now settled and no further court action will be taken.

Hemmes refused to go into details of the agreement simply saying: "It's been satisfactorily resolved."

It is not yet known as to how much money Hemmes is still to pay Kingston.
