Born Lion — Final Words (Four Four/ABC/Universal)

Born Lion's debut album is "a never-ending assault", scoring our Album Of The Week and four stars. They're definitely at their "best when at their loudest", with songs like Good Dogs Play Dead and D For Danger, "something that’s only consolidated when they put down the drumsticks and electric guitars for the totally inessential acoustic faux-angst ofViolent Soul." All in all, an impressive effort for Born Lion to "stick the landing so solidly" on their debut effort.

The Getaway Plan — Dark Horses (Independent)

The band's comeback had "grand aspirations, setting its sights on anthemic trailblazers and a radio rock target", but sadly Dark Horses shows "the best and worst of the band". Many of the tracks "choke on their own ambitions" and end up feeling contrived and awkward. However, our reviewer thought BattleshipsThe Means and Dark Horses showed the "brilliant and powerful combination of a simple, driving piano line with a blasting chorus and whipping drum beats". We gave Dark Horses two-and-a-half stars.
