The unique alliance will see the western state comprehensively covered from all angles

The West Australian music-media landscape is about to see an unprecedented shake-up, following the announcement today that the state's two leading independent outlets, The Music and X-Press Magazine, will be joining forces to better serve local and national fans, artists and industry.

The joint venture will see X-Press Magazine become the sole print title for the companies (and will continue to provide WA print options for both local and national advertisers and publicists), further bolstering its three-decade-long legacy in WA, while The Music will absorb X-Press's online presence, with the latter's content and digital advertising being integrated into the WAMi Award-winning theMusic.com.au.

The Music Perth editor Dan Cribb will remain with the company as a full-time digital editor for theMusic.com.au.

Said Joe Cipriani, the managing director of X-Press publisher Columbia Press: "This is a great decision for the WA entertainment scene, both for advertisers and readers, the combined editorial strength both in WA and nationally will see X-Press Magazine grow with even greater access to national and international artists, while theMusic.com.au will increase its WA content, taking advantage of X-Press Magazine's resources locally."

The Music managing director Craig Treweek echoed Cipriani's sentiment, saying in a statement: "As the media landscape continues to change we saw this as a unique opportunity to enhance the coverage of West Australian music entertainment both locally and nationally. We can also continue to provide advertisers the advantages of integrated online and print campaigns."

The Music will print a final Perth issue this Wednesday, 1 July. Going forward, local and national advertisers will be able to book either via X-Press or theMusic.com.au for both print and digital options.
