The Brisbane-bred rockers are making a comeback

More Custard More Custard

It's a good week to be a fan of classic Aussie music — not only have we had news of the first album in seven years from Go-Betweens co-founder Robert Forster, but now we can add to the pile with the news that Brissy indie icons Custard will also put out a long-overdue LP this year.

As News Corp reports, the album is titled Come Back, All Is Forgiven, and will be Custard's first since 1999's Lovearama. Custard join an ever-growing list of '90s throwback acts enjoying a renaissance of activity, adding to the likes of Regurgitator and Jebediah in being perhaps spurred on by new technologies and audiences, which have made the whole shebang much easier in terms of one getting their music recorded and out into the world where it can be heard.

So, while the individual members of the band now live in separate cities — bassist Paul Medew dwells in Melbourne, while co-members David McCormack and Matt Strong (guitars) and Glenn Thompson (drums) are Sydneysiders — they have reconvened to bring together the new work, which Thompson tells News Corp "sounds just like Custard".

"Put the four of us together and that's the sound you get; it could be an album we put out in 2001," he told The Courier-Mail.

Not that they've just been lounging about for the past 16 years; to take just one example, McCormack has been out making a name for himself as a screen composer, even taking out a Screen Music Award last year for his work with collaborator Antony Partos on ABC's Rake.

Still, you can expect more news to filter out of the Custard camp in the near future with regard to the fresh work — trust us, you're not alone in hoping for (slash expecting) word of a tour to follow.
