More Foo Fighters More Foo Fighters

Take heart, aspiring musicians: even the world's biggest rock stars were once nervous young kids awkwardly reaching out to their icons in the hopes that maybe they could make a connection or two. Or, at least, Dave Grohl sure was.

The Foo Fighters frontman this morning took to Twitter to share a photo of part of an old fan letter he had written when he was 14 years old to Fugazi/Minor Threat legend Ian MacKaye (who had unearthed the letter and shared it with Grohl).

As Stereogum notes, it's a fascinating, pretty adorable look at the adolescent brain of the man who would one day drum for Nirvana and form his own rock behemoth with the Foo Fighters: his robust assessment of MacKaye's music ("good thrash"); the hopeful request for networking assistance; the inclusion of Grohl's after-school contactable hours. It's all very precious.

Take a look below, and consider the power of a handwritten note the next time you tweet your favourite artist to ask them to RT your mixtape. A more personal touch could go a long way, you know. Like, a history-making distance.
