Slipknot frontman doesn't mince his words

More Slipknot More Slipknot

He is currently promoting his third book, You're Making Me Hate You: A Cantankerous Look At The Common Misconception That Humans Have Any Common Sense Left, and in keeping with the aggressive tone of his new work, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor didn't hold back when asked for his opinion on today's popular music.

Speaking to UK's Kerrang Magazine (and transcribed by Blabbermouth) the 41-year-old singer said that much of the material in his new book focuses on some of today's popular music artists.

"Yeah, I take a lot of 'popular music' to task, and people who are hailed as geniuses but really didn't earn it. Some of the things that come out of these people's mouths are just fucking unbelievable." he explained.

"I've got a couple of friends who are in this band, but Fall Out Boy saying they're going to 'save rock 'n' roll'… Are you fucking kidding me? You? With the shit that I've heard for the last two albums, that's you saving fucking rock 'n' roll? No, I don't think so."

"But whether it's Fall Out Boy saying they're saving rock 'n' roll or Gene Simmons saying rock 'n' roll is already dead, I'm standing here [with] sold-out shows, a No. 1 album around the world and I'm going, 'Really? When did this happen?'" he said.

Taylor maintains that rock's legacy has been challenged for many years, but ultimately, he believes it will continue to have its highs and lows: "Rock ebbds and flows. It always has."

"As shiny and new as these people like to think pop music is, it's the same six people who write every fucking song for some of these talentless fuckholes and I'm not worried about anything. These people have been trying to kill us for 30 years and it keeps not happening."

Taylor's new book will be available from July 7 and he is currently gearing up for the European leg of Slipknot's world tour, which starts next month.
