The annual charity Aussie Rules match will be held at Elsternwick Park next month

The annual charity Aussie Rules clash of the Reclink Community Cup is almost upon us for another year, a fact hammered home with organisers today announcing the 2015 showdown's theme as well as the event's first musical guest, Adalita.

Although the event is now also held in Sydney and has the potential to expand into other states in future years, there's still a proudly Victorian streak running through its original iteration, the 2015 version of which will be held at Elsternwick Park on Sunday, 21 June, and once again see the music media Megahertz face off against the muso-populated Rockdogs — in fact, even this year's theme, 'Feel'n Kinda Sporty', is taken from a song written by mid-'90s Melbourne outfit Dave Graney & The Coral Snakes, while Adalita herself — who rose to prominence with renowned Aussie alt act Magic Dirt — was born and bred in Geelong.

Adalita's performance at the Community Cup — for which she'll be joined by backing band Lewis Boyle, Matt Baley and Dan McKay — will not be her first such appearance at the event; she performed there with Magic Dirt in 2004, back when the game was still being held at Junction Oval, in St Kilda, playing alongside fellow legends Paul Kelly and TISM.

There will be further announcements of additional musical guests in the near future, but for the moment Reclink Australia is doing a damn fine job of making the Community Cup the kind of charity event that directly gives back to its donors as well as its dependants.
