Well played, Kevin Smith

The eagerly awaited sequel to 1995 cult smash Mallrats has had its title unveiled by creator, writer and director Kevin Smith in the wake of announcements culminating in the news that the entire cast of the original film would be returning for round two, now known to be titled MallBrats.

Announcing the news on Facebook early this morning (AEST), Smith posted a photo of his draft script's title page, as well as a tribute to late Mallrats producer (and vocal sequel advocate) Jim Jacks, describing it as "20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends, new jokes and a bloody battle with Stan Lee!"

Smith commented on his own post with a selfie with teenage daughter Harley from 2014 that he had captioned "A MALLRAT and his MALLBRAT" - 11 months ago - lending at least some credence to the theory that MallBrats may involve some next-generation faces hanging around the mall.

That said, so much of MallBrats' early pull has been in the news that original cast members Shannen Doherty, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker and Stan Lee would be returning, a roster that has since been added to in a big way by Smith - check out the last few weeks' worth of new announces below.

That's right: as we hoped, Smith has been able to convince not only Jeremy London (T.S.) but Claire Forlani (Brandy), Joey Lauren Adams (Gwen), Renee Humphrey (Tricia) and Ethan Suplee (Willam) - as well as Clerks star and Mallrats punchline Brian O'Halloran (Gil Hicks) and immortal security guard LaFours (Sven Ole-Thorsen) - to return for round two at the mall.

Sadly, though, there will be at least one main cast member not returning - we salute you, the Easter Bunny.
