"When it comes to contemporary music in this country, we punch way above our weight."

With the announcement of his re-election, WAM President Al Taylor has this week come out with a plan to change the perceived value of WA music.

"There is no question, when it comes to contemporary music in this country, we punch way above our weight. But, the significance of this within this state is not fully realised,” Taylor said.

“Alongside the massive contribution locally to culture and the economy, the contribution to brand WA cannot be denied.”

WAM plans to undertake significant research to identify the true cultural and economical value of WA music so as to brand it appropriately and give it the recognition it deserves on a national level
