The Aussie rock icons will embark on a seven-show run to pump up a new friend and revisit an old one in July

More The Church More The Church

Sydney-bred rock legends The Church have been enjoying quite the hot streak of late, undergoing something of a resurgence in the wake of last year's acclaimed full-length Further/Deeper, and now the band are taking the album name's advice and going the extra mile with their newest tour announcement.

Not content with your standard late-career set-list set-up, The Church will embark on a seven-date run of shows this July in which they will perform dual sets each night: the first, a look back at seminal second record The Blurred Crusade (1982) — which gave us such enduring cuts as Almost With You and Don't Look Back, and is still considered by frontman Steve Kilbey to be the album that saw The Church turn "into themselves" — and, the second, a more contemporary mix, filled out with highlights from Further/Deeper and a few other select favourites to please the faithful.

The news of the tour comes amid a torrent of other good fortune for the veteran act — namely, their recently completed SXSW panel with Rolling Stone US editor David Fricke and their fresh reveal as one of the acts destined for this year's esteemed Primavera Sound festival in Spain this May — so they'll be hitting Aussie stages in fine, fired-up form when they kick off the Further/Deeper — The Blurred Crusade tour, which is proudly presented by The Music, at home in Sydney, taking on The Factory on Friday, 3 July.

From there, the band will head up to The Triffid, in Brisbane, on Saturday, 4 July, before backing up the following weekend in Melbourne to play 170 Russell on Friday, 10 July. The following evening is Adelaide's turn, when the band play The Gov, and wind things up with a triple-header over on the left side of the country at Settlers Tavern, Margaret River (Thursday, 16 July), Bunbury's Prince Of Wales (Friday, 17 July), and The Rosemount, Perth, where they finish the tour on Saturday, 18 July.
