The South African comedian lands the coveted role

Comedian Trevor Noah has been announced as Jon Stewart's replacement on The Daily Show.

The South African funnyman was confirmed as Stewart's successor by Comedy Central, as reported by the NY Times. Noah will takeover the reigns later this year once Stewart steps down, though an exact finish date hasn't been confirmed by Comedy Central yet.

The 31-year-old comedian joined The Daily Show team late last year as correspondent, appearing a handful of times on the program since.

Noah toured his stand-up show around Australia last year, including an appearance for Sydney's Just For Laughs festival. He had previously toured Aus the year before. His comedy style touches on a wide range of topics, a number of them political including being raised by interracial parents during South Africa's apartheid.
