Listen To Eminem Mashed Up With Elliott Smith, And Despair

The saddest, angriest mash-up of them all

More Eminem More Eminem

At face value, the anger-fuelled raps of Eminem and the depression-driven melodies of the late Elliott Smith shouldn't be compatible listens. Anger and depression, to be fair, aren't mutually exclusive — you needn't look past bands like Cursive or The Wiggles for that proof — but they're also not the healthiest of bedfellows, in the same way that lo-fi indie-folk and hip hop generally aren't complementary if you slap them next to each other on a mixtape.

All of which makes Slim Elliott — a new mash-up created by Californian producer and musician Jake Bowman that blends the works of Shady and Smith together — all the more unsettling, entrancing and essential a prospect.

Slim Elliott is no small feat — Bowman has crafted eight distinct mash-ups to create his album, from the instantly share-worthy My Name Is Say Yes and Lose Yourself, Coast To Coast to the more hard-won rewards of tracks such as REC: Stan-2:45AM and Like Toy Soldiers On Independence Day
