CLOSE CUT
Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters is about to embark on his first solo show as a part of Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. Shears will be joined by musical director Lance Horne and a full band. Expect to see a mix of new songs, covers and Scissor Sisters classics. He plays at Beresford Hotel, 5 Mar.

ART ATTACK
The brains behind the Ed Hardy brand and accessories, Californian tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy will be hitting Sydney for the Tattoo & Body Art Expo this March. He will join other artists in celebrating tattoo art. The largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, the expo will also run pre-booked appointments, walk up appointments, exhibitions and tattoo contests. Taking place 13 – 15 Mar, Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Since bursting onto the scene in 2009, prog-rockers Animals As Leaders have climbed the rungs and become a major player within the scene. They’re playing a one-off show with Ne Obliviscaris, who managed to pull in $80,000 through a hugely successful Pozible campaign late last year. They’ll be performing at Manning Bar, 26 Feb.

GOING IN BLIND
German power metal group Blind Guardian is touring to celebrate their recent album release of Beyond The Red Mirror. Alongside these new tracks they’ll still be playing a selection of fan favourites. They’ve worked with three choirs to get their mystical, powerful, symphonic-metal sound for this album. In Sydney they’ll be playing 20 Jun with guests at The Hi-Fi.

GET PSYCHED
UK electro duo Audiojack will embark on a March national tour in celebration of the release of their new Psychonautics EP, released last week. The group are used to bringing the good times, and that’s what they’ll convey to The Spice Cellar, 7 Mar.

 

 

OOOH MY LITTLE PRETTY ONE
Barnaby Weir from The Black Seeds and Mikee Tucker from Loop form the New Zealand group Fly My Pretties, who apparently only record live albums. The mostly folky, acoustic group can’t really be put into a genre, or have a set number of band members either. Before they hit Bluesfest, they play 2 Apr, Metro Theatre.

VERY MUCH ALIVE
This March, No Body Died head out on the road to support the release of the single Arp and their forthcoming EP The Nihilist and The Pretender. They’ll be performing a collection of dreamy and emotive songs from their debut release The Eaorpe Project and new material exploring a post-apocalyptic landscape – catch everything from electronica to pop to post-rock when they perform Kings Cross Hotel, 21 Mar.

A MOTLEY GROUP
Rock icons Mötley Crüe have confirmed dates for their highly anticipated Australian leg of their last ever tour with Alice Cooper. In Sydney, the show’s on at Allphones Arena, 16 May, with tickets on sale at 11am on 4 Mar. The group’s newest single All Bad Things has also been released, available now.

EXTRA BLUES
Bluesfest has revealed its 2015 festival performance schedule, coinciding with the addition of more artists to the line-up. Six weeks from getting underway, the likes of Frank Yamma, Delta Rae, Wagons, Skipping Girl Vinegar and Marlon Williams & The Yarra Benders have all joined this year’s festival. HONOURING A LEGEND
To celebrate the life of a legend gone too soon, Lennon Through A Glass Onion will return to Australia, after a triumphant run in the US. This New York production pays homage to the beloved icon, John Lennon, with songs Imagine, Strawberry Fields Forever, All You Need Is Love and more. Created and performed by Australian actor/musician John Waters and singer/pianist Stewart D’Arrietta, this event celebrates the genius and the wonder that John Lennon brought to his audiences. Sydney Opera House, 28 Apr – 3 May.

 

 

SUPER STATUS
Everybody’s favourite Super Best Friends are finally releasing their debut album Status Updates on 20 Mar, which of course they need to tour to launch and celebrate with y’all. The punk-rock trio’s national tour will make its way to NSW, 9 Apr, Oxford Art Factory; 10 Apr, Canberra’s Transit Bar; 11 Apr, Rad Bar, Wollongong.

JENNY AND THE SIX
Microwave Jenny, the alter-ego of husband and wife musical force Tessa and Brendon Boney, is set to release a brand new EP, Microwave Jenny & The Six Song EP, early next month. To celebrate, the duo will be taking on the country with an extensive national tour, bringing their eclectic mix of electronic pop to Newtown Social Club, 23 Apr; Lizottes Newcastle, 30 Apr; Front Bar & Gallery, Canberra, 2 May.

 

BULKING UP
With less than a month ‘til the big day, Farmer & The Owl Festival has announced new additions to their bulky line-up. Joining the bill will be live acts Velociraptor, Rolls Bayce and Jeremy Neale, plus a DJ line-up including Parkside & Friends, SPACE 44 DJs, Blackbear, Honeybear, Berko (FBi), Vintage Stylus DJs and Music Farmers DJs. They will be joining the likes of DZ Deathrays, Jebediah, Bass Drum Of Death, The Mess Hall and Bad//Dreems for what should be a killer musical experience. The festival will also be running cinema and art, which includes a number of silent films, art galleries and live street art, as well as a range of appetising food, drink and market stalls to get you through the day. HOT IN HERE
Electronic act Beat Spacek will play a 27 Feb Sydney show at an unnamed venue, to be announced on the day. For those who can’t make it, internationally renowned music website Boiler Room will stream the show live online, kicking off at 10.30pm AEST. For more info on the show RSVP at boilerroom.tv. TWISTED FIRESTARTERS
Rock‘n’roll duo Jackson Firebird return from their touring stint throughout Europe and Brazil to play a run of local shows in March and April as part of their Bang The Mohican tour. They’ll road test some new tracks on 25 Mar at Frankie’s Pizza By The Slice and 26 Mar at Moonshine Cider & Rum Bar.

 

 

 

 

 

 

GRINDIN’ ON THAT
Witchgrinder are hitting the ground running after a memorable 2014 which included such highs as supporting Entombed A.D. In Japan. They’re back to launch new single Bloodlust with help from Graveyard Rockstars at Frankie’s Pizza By The Slice, 12 Apr.

SEASONS CHANGE
Intimate Melbourne based Packwood have been bubbling quietly beneath the surface for two years. They now announce Autumnul the first of their seasonal four part EP series Vertumnus. They play Smith’s Alternative Book Shop, 17 Apr and Hibernian House, 18 Apr.

 

HOT PROPERTY
New York indie favourites Real Estate will send the long hot Aussie summer off in style, currently doing the rounds on an east coast tour that stops by at Oxford Art Factory, Thursday.

Producer, artist, and heartthrob Paces (Mikey Perry) brings smooth sounds reminiscent of his recent work with Ryan Hemsworth, Kaytranada and Tkay Maizda. Joined by Tom Lark and Jesse Davidson, Wednesday, Beach Road Hotel.



 

 

HARTBREAKER

THREE’S A CHARM
Rock gods Incubus, Antemasque and Le Butcherettes are presenting a triple-whammy of hard sounds when they perform at Enmore Theatre on Friday, while they’re all down here for Soundwave.

JICKS ON THE SIDE
Former Pavement main man Stephen Malkmus and his current band The Jicks have announced a handful of Australian club dates. Catch them Sunday at Anita’s Theatre in Wollongong, and Tuesday at Newtown Social Club.

PUMPKIN SPICE
The Smashing Pumpkins have sold more than 30 million albums and have won multiple Grammys. They’re a pretty big deal, and will be playing a Soundwave sideshow at Hordern Pavilion, Wednesday.

 

CORDIALE FRIENDS
Lyall Moloney will support Lime Cordiale, pictured, on their Aussie tour. Moloney’s hip hop and electronic vibes will open the show at Newtown Social Club, Saturday.








CHECK YA POCKETS

Crooked Fiddle Band, pictured, and Rapaport will join together with a 17-piece orchestra to create Pick Pockets & Rascals. How’s that for a big sound? Thursday, The Basement.

Limber up your wrists. The Mardi Gras’ Harbour Party is back, so those hands better be ready for waving. Bimbo Jones, DJ Kitty Glitter, DJ Du Jour, and DJ Dan Murphy play Fleet Steps, Saturday.

Three-piece Wollongong rockers Kaleidoscope recorded their single, Junior, in Brisbane, so on their way home, Thursday they stop in at Frankie’s Pizza. Then 7 Mar, it’s Rad Bar, back in their home town.
