The beloved annual regional concert has taken a back seat to the station's ongoing anniversary celebrations

National youth broadcaster triple j has announced that its annual regional concert series One Night Stand will not be taking place this year as it continues to focus on its extensive 40th-anniversary celebrations, which got under way with last month's acclaimed Beat The Drum gig.

In a statement released on the station's website today, triple j explained it would still have a presence at festivals around the country, and will still accept expressions of interest from towns wishing to host potential future events. "We look forward to bringing the best live music back to regional Australia when the One Night Stand returns in future," the station said.

Last year's event took the likes of Violent Soho, Dan Sultan, Illy, The Jungle Giants and RÜFÜS to the town of Mildura, Victoria, while previous iterations attracted line-ups boasting mainstays of Aussie music such as Flume, Hilltop Hoods, Silverchair, Seth Sentry, Ball Park Music, The Jezabels, John Butler Trio, The Living End and several others. The first such event was held in 2004, and has been bringing big-city-style festivities to under-serviced regional areas ever since, so it's probably no stretch to assume that our far-flung friends will be eager to see it return sooner rather than later.

As for triple j's 40-year celebrations, they've still got a wealth of "campaigns, special events and CD releases" in the pipeline. For more information, see the station's website.
