And holy heck, it looks incredible

If you weren't already starting to get seriously excited about the prospect of Straight Outta Compton, the forthcoming biopic detailing the rise of incendiary and iconic hip hop collective N.W.A, then the just-released first full trailer ought to set you straight.

Opening with a black-and-white, minute-long introduction featuring founding members Ice Cube and Dr Dre as they reminisce about their youth and reflect on the indelible impact and imprint they left on their community, before giving way, Oz-like, to the trailer proper.

Back in 1987, we're introduced to Dre (Corey Hawkins) — still "Andre" to his mum — Ice Cube (O'Shea Jackson Jr, aka Ice Cube's son) and the tragic Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) — as well as fellow members MC Ren and DJ Yella — as they claw their way out of the problematic cycles to which they've been involuntarily in thrall all their lives and go on to change the world through the power of their voices, music and messages against a mainstream who didn't understand them, and didn't want to. As an especially rare treat, this actually looks like one music biopic that could be really, really good .
