INXS guitarist Tim Farriss has undergone two operations to re-attach a finger after it was severed in a boating accident on Australia Day.

News Limited have reported that Farriss "mangled" his left hand and severed his ring finger in an incident involving the electric anchor of his boat near his Sydney seaside home.

Despite the accident taking place last month, it's believed he only recently revealed the extent of his injuries to his bandmates.

Farriss described the traumatic event as "horrific" and told his fellow INXS members, "I don't know if I will be able to play properly again."

The report claims that Farriss will have to undergo two years of physiotherapy to "improve the function of his severely damaged hand."

It will be several months before the full extent of the damage can be gauged.

Band manager Chris Murphy has said that Farriss is now home from hospital and "we hope with time he will regain movement in his finger."
