The six-string-slinging workhorse stands at the cusp of a whole new era

More Ash Grunwald More Ash Grunwald

Resilient, hard-working troubadour Ash Grunwald is a man poised at the dawn of a new life chapter: the signature dreads are gone, his compositions are more accessible than ever, and he can now add to his growing list of career highlights his signing of a co-management and Australian representation deal with renowned agency Footstomp Music.

Footstomp announced the signing via Facebook today, accompanied by a new shot of Grunwald (above) that shows him to have (apparently unflinchingly) parted ways with the dreadlocks for which he had become so recognisable, as symbolic a representation of the new musical day that lies ahead for the veteran songsmith as any.

Indeed, excitement is building for the release of yet another full-length album, following on from 2013's acclaimed LP Gargantua with a record crafted with assistance from backing players such as Wolfmother keyboardist Ian Perez and ex-Blue King Brown drummer Pete Wilkins, while renowned US producer Nick DiDia (Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Powderfinger) lent his experienced ear for the album's desk duties, the final product — as yet untitledand still a little while off having an official release date, though it's expected around September — pegged as undoubtedly becoming Grunwald's "landmark album".

Grunwald is about to embark on a sizeable tour across Canada, but he'll be back soon enough — Aussie fans can catch him at Hope Island's Campfire Festival on 15 March, or the following week at Coastal Blues Festival on 21 March. See theGuide or check The Music App for more information.
