Studio to get overhaul

Sydney community radio station FBi Radio will receive support from alcohol brand Jack Daniel’s to overhaul their Redfern studios into a live performance space, which will host events and live-to-air showcases.

In arguably the biggest structural overhaul in the respected station’s 12-year history, existing FBi office space will be developed into FBi Live with the support of the Jack Daniel’s Future Legends Initiative.

“It’s great to be working with Jack Daniel’s Future Legends on the refit of the space as we’re both committed to supporting and championing emerging talent,” said Stephen Goodhew, FBi’s Music Director.

“The new space will enable us to do just that, as we’ll be able to facilitate live to air performances for the first time ever. As a result, our listeners will be able to enjoy more exclusive content and will have the chance to get to know the station and the artists we feature, a little more intimately.”

They have also indicated that the new space will be able to host events for both local and international talent.

The space will be designed by Bob Barton, who was behind the Golden Age Cinema & Bar and Melbourne’s Rooftop Cinemas, while Little May member Annie Hamilton will be providing graphic design and filmmaker Callum Van De Mortel will also be making an input.

The Redfern based station previously ran a venue in the Kings Cross Hotel called FBi Social, but they wound up their partnership in November 2014. They currently boast a listenership of 470,000 and are often instrumental in developing emerging Sydney and Australian talent.
