The ex-Silverchair frontman will release his fresh goods this March

More Daniel Johns More Daniel Johns

Renowned Aussie muso and former Silverchair leader Daniel Johns will emerge from eight years in the figurative wilderness this March with the release of his first new work since the band's fifth full-length Young Modern dropped in 2007.

With both EP and lead single titled Aerial Love, the new tracks arrive informed by a near-decade of broadened experiences and ideas, the angst-soaked alternative strains of eras past making way for a collaboration with Joel Little, known for his work with the likes of Lorde and Broods — the title track, for example, is all subdued synthetic instruments and soulful crooning, the man who once spat, "Body and soul, I'm a freak" now demonstrating his talents in the minimalist soul-pop arena.

Not that we're complaining — have a listen to the new track below, but if you were hoping for some kind of belated return to the Silverchair strains of yore, keep on moving. Everyone else, get on down.

Daniel Johns' Aerial Love EP will be released on Friday, 13 March, via EMI. It's available for pre-order now.
