Blue Mountains hip hop group Thundamentals have signed a worldwide deal with Universal Music Australia’s Island Records Australia, with the band to set up their own imprint for forthcoming releases.

Following what is believed to be lengthy discussions with a number of parties the band – who recently had three entries onto the triple j Hottest 100 – the band are currently in the studio recording the follow up to 2014’ So We Can Remember. It will be released through the new imprint, details of which are yet to be announced, with support and distribution through Universal’s Island.

“Thundamentals are one of the most exciting artists making music today,” said Universal Music Australia co-Managing Director Michael Taylor. “They push the envelope – sonically, lyrically and conceptually. Yes, they are fully ingrained in the Aussie hip-hop scene, but they draw influence from all different genres and spaces, and from that, they cross boundaries.

“Island and Universal are honoured to be able to work with them, and help them achieve the next stages of their career and musical vision.”

The band’s manager, Nathan Farrell, added, “A huge welcome to Island Records and Universal Music Australia, we are absolutely thrilled to have them join the Thundamentals family. We’re looking forward to achieving the bands musical aspirations and career goals together, both at home and abroad with their future releases and endeavours. Exciting times to come.”

Alongside the release of the record, it has been a big 12 months for the band. They’ve graced stages at Falls, Groovin The Moo and as support for Hilltop Hoods’ national tour.
