The renowned environmentalist entertainers are far from a sure shot for a posited once-off at Live Earth

The office of venerated Aussie activist rockers Midnight Oil has denied rumours of a band reunion for the forthcoming Live Earth Sydney event, saying that the claims have no basis in fact.

Earlier today, a story started circulating in the wake of comments made by Triple M music news reporter Nui Te Koha, after the station ran its own piece explaining how the renowned act "might get back together" to perform at the recently announced, Pharrell-curated event.

"There's no basis to any of this story," the Midnight Oil Office told theMusic.com.au this afternoon. "It appears to have come from Nui Te Koha."

Talking to Triple M earlier, Nui had said: "For Live Earth in June… it certainly feels like the Oils are ramping up… Peter Garrett was at the Beat The Drum concert in Sydney about a week ago. [There are] definitely plans, definitely talk for some sort of Midnight Oil action this year."

From there, Nui's quote blossomed into a buzzing rumour mill over a potential Oils reunion. However, unfortunately for fans, there appears to be nothing "definite" about such a reunion, as the Midnight Oil Office asserts.

This isn't the first reunion rumour to have popped up in recent months — back in June last year, drummer Rob Hirst told theMusic.com.au's Steve Bell that he was "excited" about the possibility of a reunion tour at the time, possibly in the wake of an art exhibition being staged in their honour, though no further arrangements eventuated.

Keep holding that breath, Oils fans...
