Chet Faker at #1

As pretty much predicted by everyone, local acts Chet Faker and Peking Duk ruled this year's annual triple j Hottest 100 countdown.

Faker took out the top spot with Talk Is Cheap while Peking Duk's High (featuring Nicole Millar) landed in second position in the publicly voted song poll.

Faker also came in at seven and eight with Gold and 1998 respectively. Peking Duk were at five with Take Me Over (featuring SAFIA).

Faker becomes only the second artist to land three songs in the top ten — Powderfinger being the first to do so in 2003.

Hilltop Hoods took out third place with Cosby Sweater — making it an all-Aussie top three — while German team Milky Chance came in fourth with Stolen Dance.

Triple j Music Director Richard Kingsmill praised the number one song's staying power, “Talk Is Cheap dropped right at the start of 2014. By year’s end, it was still sounding as fresh as the first day we played it."

There were 59 Australian tracks in the list this year, breaking the previous record of 52 Australian artists in both 1999 and 2007.

Thirty-five artists made their Hottest 100 debut this year, including locals Meg Mac and DMA's.

With past criticism surrounding the Hottest 100's under-representation of women, eagle-eyed stats nerds were keeping a watch this year. According to CaseyBriggs.com, who broke it down by band membership, of 254 musicians in the Hottest 100 only 29 are women. Two female artists made the pointy end of the list — Lorde at 18 with Yellow Flicker Beat and Sia at nine with Chandelier.

Taylor Swift was disqualified.
