Long-serving post-hardcore pioneers The Amity Affliction have facetiously thanked Jetstar "for nothing" after the airline cancelled the day's only direct flight from Darwin into Cairns, where the band was scheduled to perform with In Hearts Wake and Confession tonight.

Although Amity has secured alternative transport arrangements to be able to make tonight's show, the band took to social media to let their fans know that neither of the other acts would be able to attend the event, which is to be held at local venue The Jack, but that they had organised some last-minute local supports to help fill the void, before launching into an explanatory attack on the discount airline.

"For a long time Jetstar's inability to reschedule the flight today had us thinking we would have to cancel the show also," the band wrote on Facebook. "We have left no stone unturned in trying to get to Cairns as we have been looking forward to playing this show for a long time. We were nearly out of options before the legends at Independent Aviation were able to work with us and now will get us there in time to play the show.

"To say we are disappointed that In Hearts Wake and Confession won't be playing tonight is an understatement; we did everything in our power to get them there also but ultimately Jetstar wouldn't reschedule the flight.

"We look forward to seeing you all there tonight and will let our frustration out during the show."

"Once again a massive thanks to Independent Aviation for making it possible for us to get there and we have nothing to say to Jetstar except — thanks for nothing!" the post concluded.

In response to a fan's charge that the flight had probably been cancelled "due to the bad weather causing dangerous conditions", Amity retorted, "Strange there's been no other flights canceled or delayed out of Darwin today..."

For Jetstar's part, the airline — rather remarkably, it must be said — directly addressed The Amity Affliction's concerns on Facebook.

"Hi, I'm truly sorry to hear your flight was affected by a cancellation," a Jetstar representative responded. "Whilst we do try to get all flights away on time, this isn't always possible due to operational requirements and our strict safety standards and I'm very sorry that you were affected on this occasion.

"I'm disappointed that you were unhappy with the alternative flight options that were provided to you but we do try our best to get our customers to their destination as quickly as they can and I'm tryly sorry that the flight time was not an option for you today.

"We appreciate your feedback and I'll pass it onto our management team to review. I hope that despite the disruption you can still have a great gig tonight."

Pending no further disruptions to their plans, the three bands will reunite to continue with their The Weigh Downunder tour in Townsville at The Venue tomorrow night.
