Thundamentals Don't Want That Rough Baggage Handler To Be Fired

Aussie hip-hop outfit Thundamentals have followed up an incident yesterday that saw them filming an apparently indifferent Virgin Australia staff member who was mishandling their fragile luggage, saying that "the last thing we want" is for the employee in question to lose his job.

Taking to Facebook earlier today, Thundamentals explained that they have had worse experiences in the past than the one that went viral yesterday — including the destruction of their mixer as recently as last week — as well as indicating that they believe the problem lies not with the individual employee(s) in question, but a hardwired culture of disregard for passengers' luggage throughout the profession.

"In regards to yesterday's baggage handler post, we just wanted to say a couple of things," the group began their post. "First and foremost, the last thing we want is for the handler in the footage to lose his job.

"In the past, we've seen people be far rougher with our gear, we just happened to catch him in the act (last week our mixer was totally smashed, hence why we filmed yesterday's incident).

"We would much prefer to see baggage handlers trained more thoroughly to fix the core of the problem, rather than just fire the guy who might have had a bad day and let his attention slip. From our perspective, it seems like there is a culture within the job itself that shows a disregard for people's belongings.

"We are just trying to get from A to B without getting our equipment broken. It's expensive, fragile, fiddly and really our lifeblood of being able to play show after show."

The band concluded their post with an acknowledgement of Virgin Australia's efforts in making amends for the situation, for which they say they are "genuinely appreciative".

"We have been flying with them for years and will continue to do so," the group said.
