Brand New Return To Studio To Record Fifth Album

Finally

Long Island-bred emo/alt-rock veterans Brand New have confirmed that they are in the studio once more, to record the long-awaited follow-up to their fourth full-length album, 2009's Daisy.

With a pair of tweets, the band directed their fans towards a new merch page and (semi-)new website, the latter of which features a background splash image bearing words fans have been waiting to see for the past five years: "Brand New is in the studio".

The statement is followed with a typically cryptic string of words that has accompanied their most recent postings: "Procrastinate! PoGolith Earth Sound Alliance 2015". The internet is abuzz with speculation on its meaning, though the commonly accepted theory at present is an indication of some sort of collaboration between Brand New's own label, Procrastinate Music Traitors, registered (but ambiguously purposed) limited liability company (LLC) Earth Sound Alliance — owned by the band's drummer, Brian Lane — and something called PoGolith, which, as Property Of Zack points out, lacks any real web presence, but may be related to the band's likely studio of choice, UpStudio.

As a final breadcrumb, there is an obscured, hard-to-see link that reads "HYPE" in the top-right corner of the new website, leading those eagle-eyed enough to spot and click on it to a music video for a band known as the one and only PPL MVR and their track People Mover — which has since seen people take to that band's Facebook page (which was only created in September... hmmm) to demand to know who the masked, simian rockers are, or at least what they know about Brand New.

Of course, it's entirely possible the two acts are not related at all — PPL MVR is apparently based out of Los Angeles, on the other side of the country to Brand New — and Brand New are literally just trying to "hype" one of the most bizarre (yet utterly fascinating) acts rising in the US... but given their penchant for cryptic shit like this in the past, you'll forgive us for remaining just a teensy bit sceptical that it's that simple (it probably is, though).

Whatever; rejoice at Brand New's long-overdue return to the studio with a throwback special below.
