Concern for an "event of this size and nature"

West Australian festival Origin NYE has been forced to seek out a replacement venue for their upcoming event, with the City of Perth rejecting plans for it to go ahead at initially announced venue Wellington Square.

As reported by The West Australian, council held a meeting on Tuesday night, with concerns raised over the impact the festival could potentially have on the surrounding area. The council's report said the WA Police and Public Transport Authority opposed an "event of this size and nature" with limited parking options and no easy access to public transport the main issues.

First-release tickets to the event sold out on Tuesday, without Origin having received official approval from council.

The festival took to Facebook in a short post regarding the situation, with a full statement expected to be released sometime soon.

"So as you've probably all seen, the City of Perth in their infinite wisdom have decided to reject our NYE show. We will be working on a replacement venue and will be making a statement shortly," it read.

Previous events at Wellington Square have been held until 10pm, however Origin's application was asking for a midnight ending time.

Last year's Origin was held at Ozone Reserve in Perth.

Origin NYE's 2014 line-up is set to feature AlunaGeorge, Danny Brown, Cashmere Cat, Bauuer and loads more.
