A Brisbane headline gig by Mos Def, aka Yasiin Bey, was cancelled at the last minute late Friday evening.

The show had been a surprise announcement, only being added to the US rapper's Soulfest sideshow schedule earlier this week.

Fans were left waiting for Bey to take the stage at 10pm for a performance to a sold-out Woolly Mammoth last night.

Soulfest promoters and venue management confirmed the hip hop artist's non-attendance with a statement issued at 10.45pm.

The statement read: "Mos Def is unable to perform... [he] is suffering another illness." Later clarifying the illness as a "sore throat".

Bey had already cancelled his first Soulfest appearance last weekend, in Sydney, due to "travel issues" but did take the stage at the following day's leg of the festival in Melbourne.

Promoters have confirmed that tickets for last night's gig are valid for entry to today's Soulfest in Brisbane (plus a guest).

Ticketholders unable to attend Soulfest have been promised a full refund.

Fans took to Bey's Facebook page to vent for the no-show: "You broke  my heart," posted Domm Watson; "Dude not cool," wrote Mia Gillfeather; while Cib Bill stated simply, "Mos definitely disappointing."

Bey's performance at last Sunday's Soulfest was described as "flawless".
