The veteran announcer is making a full-time return to music

Long-serving triple j announcer Lindsay 'The Doctor' McDougall has announced that he is leaving the station after a decade behind the desk to focus once more on making music full-time.

McDougall made the revelation with the assistance of his very own farewell ditty, I'm F***ing Off!, officially kicking off the countdown to his final Drive-slot show on Thursday, December 11 — so you've still got just under two months to enjoy what time McDougall has left as the voice of your weekday afternoon commute.

Tune into triple j in early December to find out who'll be stepping into McDougall's shoes upon his exit.

It's been a massive stint at the national youth broadcaster for The Doctor since he first signed on as breakfast host alongside Frenzal Rhomb bandmate and long-time mate Jay Whalley in January 2005. Though Whalley left some time ago, McDougall has gone on to cover more than 6000 hours on air, sharing the mic with Whalley, Myf Warhurst, Marieke Hardy and Robbie Buck on the way to his five-year stretch as Drive host.
