Looking to capture 'new generation' audience

Sydney’s Taronga Zoo is revamping its annual Twilight At Taronga program, with a change in programming direction an attempt to reinvigorate the summer concert series.

Held on Friday and Saturday nights from 30 January to 21 March, the Zoo’s harbour-side venue will host international, contemporary and “classic Australian” artists, with Taronga hoping to attract a younger audience in the 20th anniversary of the series.

Today a PR representative confirmed to theMusic.com.au that the line up will be “very different” to years past. The 2014 line-up included Jimmy Barnes, The Whitlams, James Reyne and Daryl Braithwaite.

As part of the changes renowned artist Ken Done has been brought in to create the artwork for the anniversary year.

Behind the scenes the 2015 event is being booked by Emily York. She also books Melbourne Zoo’s live concert program, placing the likes of Neko Case, Something For Kate and Jessica Mauboy into that series earlier this year. Yvette Myhill, Executive Director of AAM, is the Executive Producer of this year’s events.

Paul Davies, General Manager – Marketing, Fundraising and Commercial Services, said that they will “be presenting a line-up that will introduce Twilight At Taronga to a new generation of audiences as well as providing plenty of great-night-out options for longstanding fans of the event.”

He added, “To represent this step change, we wanted to create a new visual identity for the series that reflected the connection between the music, the Zoo and our incredible harbour-side location. Ken Done was the perfect choice to produce this imagery with his strong affinity with the Zoo.”

Having supported the recent Wild Rhinos! conservation project, Done said, “I've always loved the zoo. It is a beautiful and thrilling place and to attend one of the Twilight At Taronga concerts is one of the real joys of living in Sydney.”

The line-up for Twilight At Taronga will be announced Tuesday 28 October.
