Legendary Brisbane-bred band The Go-Betweens will release a four-LP, four-CD retrospective collection that details the group’s early years and includes an envy-inducing array of rare and archival goodies in January next year, via Domino Recording Company and EMI Music Australia.

The collection, G Stands For Go-Betweens – Volume One, will come only a few months after the band passed the 30-year anniversary of their seminal LP Spring Hill Fair, and along with that watershed record will include vinyl re-pressings of early full-lengths Send Me A Lullaby and Before Hollywood, as well as a compilation of the band’s classics for the fourth LP, The First Five Singles. The four CDs are comprised of a wealth of rare, hard-to-find and unreleased demos, recordings, radio sessions and a live radio-broadcast concert from way back in 1982.

In addition, the box set, which covers the celebrated band’s output from 1978-1984, includes a silkscreen of their first promo poster for debut single Lee Remick, plus a reproduction of their inaugural press release. Liner notes are written by founding member Robert Forster, while the first 600 orders will snare a random book from the personal library of late co-founder Grant McLennan, replete with a special bookmark signed by Forster as certification of authenticity.

Have a listen to a couple of the band’s classic singles, Cattle And Cane and Part Company, below, for old times’ sake or, if you're only just joining the party, for introductory purposes.
