Among the 80,000 pro-democracy protesters in the streets of Hong Kong over the past few days, Aussie MC and producer Joelistics has been on the ground, reporting the peaceful and not so peaceful demonstrations via his Instagram.

The protest turned violent on Sunday, with authorities unleashing tear gas and pepper spray to disburse and diffuse crowds pushing for a democratic election in 2017.

Joelistics: "Shits about to go down on the streets of Hong Kong."

Joelistics: "Peaceful protesters running before the cops unleash pepper spay and tear gas."

Joelistics: "Amazing camaraderie on the streets of Hong Kong right now. There are stations of public donated glad wrap for the eyes and masks for the face. People are looking out for each other here."

Tensions settled somewhat across Monday, with a peaceful protest taking place last night.

Joelistics: "In down town Mongkok this guy was preventing the crowd from getting nasty on a pro-beijing supporter. 'Badminton teacher and friend club' bad ass."

Joelistics: "Stand off at Admiralty next to government house round 11am #occupyhongkong."

Joelistics: "There is a peaceful and powerful spirit on the streets of Hong Kong tonight. The fight for democracy has evolved in to a street party! Leaving in the morning. So much love for this place."

Joelistics takes his new record, Blue Volume, around the country next month, with the tour kicking off Friday 17 October at Newtown Social Club, Sydney with Sietta and Mathas in tow. Head to the Gig Guide or The Music App for all dates.
