Onwards to victory!

Can you smell it? The anticipation, anxiety, fear and hope that’s filling the air? Yep, you can. You know why we know that? 'Cause it’s footy grand finals time, yiewwwww!

Yes the business end of the seasons for Australia’s most loved footy codes – AFL and NRL – are drawing to a close, with the AFL grand final this weekend, and the NRL the one after.

We here at theMusic.com.au (well, most of us — others just can't understand the fuss) froth over this time of year (as someone in our office likes to say, “we love ALL the sports”) and we think we know a thing or two about how the teams left should approach the biggest match of their careers.

With music, of course.

While Queen’s We Are The Champions is usually reserved for post-match celebrations, why not use it in the lead-up. You want to be a champion right (yes Buddy, we’re looking at you) so why not think like one. Or sing like one.

How about a little Angry Anderson confidence with Rose Tattoo’s We Can’t Be Beaten? Or strip it down a notch with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, I Won’t Back Down. No. No you won’t.

Adelaide’s favourite rappers the Hilltop Hoods have been down The Hard Road, and Powderfinger leader Bernard Fanning has been treated Like A Dog, while Birds Of Tokyo have taken on This Fire, only to see Shannon Noll Lift and, ultimately, Hunt(ers) & Collect(ors) the Holy Grail. #Sorry #NotSorry.

But it all really comes down to just playing Footy, Footy, doesn’t it King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard?

And of course the ladies know the right things to say at this time of year too because, let’s face it, behind every great man is an even greater woman. Ain’t that right Gloria Gaynor, Tina Turner and Beyoncé? Heck, even our own Delta Goodrem gave us Born To Try. Don’t act like that shit does not inspire you.

So if the Swannies, Hawks, Bunnies, Roosters, Panthers and Bulldogs take our advice, they could very well be victorious when it’s all said and done these next two weekends. And they really should take our advice, cause, in the words of the Eminem, “success is my only motherfucking option, failure’s not.”
