Yet another impressive accomplishment for the Melbourne rock outfit

More Kingswood More Kingswood

The Australian chart domination of Melburnian rock powerhouses Kingswood continues in the Carlton Dry Independent Music Charts, with their debut full-length album Microscopic Wars picking up a #2 placing this week, with Shepparton-based hip-hop luminary Briggs and his Sheplife record hot on their heels at #3.

The pair of acts are far and away the highest-placing debuts, album or single, for the week, though neither were quite able to knock the three-week-strong chart leader Walking Under Stars, by Hilltop Hoods, off its perch. The Griswolds and their encouragingly titled Be Impressive LP were the only other artist to see an album make its inaugural chart appearance this week, stepping out at #13.

The top-ten album spectrum remains mostly populated by familiar faces — Sia's 1000 Forms Of Fear is still placing high (#4), as are Sheppard with Bombs Away (#5), Adam Brand's My Side Of The Street (#6), Chet Faker's Built On Glass (#7), Hillsong's No Other Name (#8) and Russell Morris's Van Diemen's Land (#9), with the tenth placing going to chart-toppers Hilltop Hoods and their previous full-length release Drinking From The Sun.

Over on the singles ladder, there's a little more action in terms of newcomers, with national treasure Jimmy Barnes making a dual fresh appearance on the ladder — I'd Die To Be With You, featuring Diesel, picks up #12, and Lay Down Your Guns, featuring The Living End, steps out at #16.

Despite the double effort, Barnesy can't quite match ubiquitous troubadour Vance Joy, whose new cut Wasted Time makes its inaugural appearance at #4, while the top three acts experience only a minor shuffle this week — Timmy Trumpet's Freaks maintains its pole position, while Sia's Chandelier hops up from #3 to #2, and Sheppard's Geronimo slips to #3.

Joy is a regular fixture of the charts week in, week out — he's still hanging around in the top ten twice more, with Mess Is Mine (#7) and Riptide (#8) both picking up single-digit finishes for the week. The recently world-signed Peking Duk, too, remain inside the top ten, with High sitting pretty at #9.

Renowned Aussie chanteuse Missy Higgins is the final newcomer for the week, outpacing Barnesy's second effort by picking up #15 with the Dan Sultan-featuring Lay Down Your Guns.
