Fledgling Sydney event Gingerfest – a memorial fundraiser for murdered Canberran punk-scene identity Nicholas “The Ginger Ninja” Sofer-Schreiber – has lifted the veil on the initial batch of acts set to grace its stage this December, including renowned industry vets 28 Days, stalwart Sydneysiders Bagster, and perennial favourites Totally Unicorn, to name a few.

Melburnian upstarts Clowns, the shred-tastic Born Lion,Canberran pop-punkers Super Best Friends, city-mates and scene veterans Revellers, South Australian punk mainstays Hightime and the bluegrass-infused strains of The Punk Rock Hillbilly all serve to round out the impressive roster of acts. That’s not all, though – Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall of Frenzal Rhomb/triple j fame will be providing unplugged entertainment, as will Melburnian alt-country luminary Lincoln Le Fevre.

Gingerfest is aiming to be an annual shindig celebrating the life and legacy of the Ginger Ninja, the impetus for which was summed up by co-curator and close mate Luke Griffis in a statement: “The Ginger Ninja was more than just a friend to us; he was family, he was the heart and soul of our little music community. His legacy will live on. The best way we thought to remember would be just this – an annual punk rock festival – celebrating his life with the thing he loved the most: music.”

The inaugural Gingerfest event will be held at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Saturday, December 6. Tickets will set you back $27.50 (plus fees) when they go on sale this Friday, September 5, via the venue.
