Like the giant face-gate isn't terrifying enough

More Basenji More Basenji

The iconic Big Top at Sydney’s Luna Park will welcome the very first Ouija Beats Halloween party, proudly presented by The Music, this October, featuring an esteemed line-up of acts including Cosmo’s Midnight, Basenji, Panama, Northeast Party House and more.

Cosmo’s Midnight is the collective moniker for beat-making twins Cosmo and Patrick, who dropped their debut EP Surge last year (via Yes Please!), going on to support high-profile performers such as XXYYXX, Cashmere Cat and Tokimonsta in recent times. They gained further notoriety for their acclaimed remix of Flume’s Sleepless, and took out the triple j Unearthed slot at last year’s electro-centric Listen Out Festival, so they’re not exactly unprepared to bring the goods to the spookiest night of the year.

One-man wonder Basenji has had a similarly busy last nine-or-so months, traversing the country and working his way into earholes and memory banks with his percussive, R&B-fused compositions, some of which you’re no doubt familiar with from their recent prominence on the airwaves and ubiquity of presence among discussions of discerning bloggers. With a debut EP just about to drop, Halloween’s Ouija Beats party should find Basenji in simply luminous form.

Locally bred auteurs of atmosphere Panama haven’t appeared at home since hobnobbing it around the globe and selling out shows in London, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and New York, as well as taking to the stage in front of punters at Leeds and the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands, because some people are just sickeningly over-achieving that way. Ouija Beats will mark their first home-town performance since their worldwide sojourn, so expect to find them older, wiser, more polished, and better than you’ve ever seen them before.

Northeast Party House, hailing from Melbourne, will be similarly well-road-worn by the time they hit Luna Park’s Big Top this Halloween, by then having completed their Kick Ons tour throughout the month of October in support of tracks from recently released debut full-length Any Given Weekend. The album has spawned them a fair bit of radio love, not least of all for recent singles Sick Boy and The Haunted.

Joining those acts will be Willow Beats, Olympic Ayres, Twin Caverns, Astral DJs and Moonbase Commander, in addition to a raft of circus sideshow performers, free rides, prizes up for grabs, and $40 in Uber credit for a ride to or from the event.

Tickets for the evening of spooky celebration – which, naturally, goes down on Friday, October 31, at Luna Park’s Big Top – will go on sale from Tuesday, September 9 via the Big Top’s website.
