The doors will close on three years of grassroots music memories in October
The organiser behind cult-favourite Brisbane DIY space The Waiting Room has announced that the beloved indie venue will be closing its doors this October.
In an explanatory post on the venue's Facebook page last night, operator Cameron Smith broke the news of the closure, which he'd "been sitting on for a while", explaining that, after three years, "it's time for this space to end and for someone else to start something new". The venue's last show , with Ghost Notes and Winternationale, will be held on Friday, October 3.
"Thanks to everyone who came along to a show, and thanks even more to all of the bands who played our little venue," Smith wrote.

Smith's given the Brissy faithful plenty of time to get along for one last (or, tragically, your first) look around the homely little converted Queenslander-style house that has hosted a non-stop procession of some of the nation's best off-radar acts over the past three years, in one of the friendliest, most intimate spaces the city has to offer.
Gigs will still be put on for Turnpike, Grieg, BARGE waaoi, and Bottlecock (September 5); Sparkspitter, Tape/Off, Cedie Janson (Naked Maja), and Hinterlandt (September 12); Spirit Bunny, Single Twin, The Steady As She Goes (September 13); Cracked Actor, Gaza Strips (September 19); McKisko (September 20); Holly Tollis, Georgia Mae, Charlotte Emily (September 27) and the final show on October 3 — so there's pretty much no excuse to not take a victory lap of the stalwart venue before it's gone for good.
