The late Models frontman's 1981 album has been re-issued in fitting style
Late, great Aussie musician James Freud — best known for his time as frontman of Models back in the day — is set to see his legacy given an overdue helping hand, with his debut full-length album just being made available on CD for the first time.
Breaking Silence burst into the world in 1981, boasting future-iconic songs such as Modern Girl and Enemy Lines, and the re-issue — which comes courtesy of Sandman Records — ensures that existing and prospective fans are given more than their money's worth, with not only the original 10-song tracklisting, but eight bonus tracks comprised of A-/B-side singles and previously unreleased songs, being included.
Some of those songs are demo recordings produced by none other than renowned UK musician Gary Numan, with whom Freud — who passed away in 2010 — struck up something of a bond during an early Aussie tour and remained close to for the remainder of his life. Tales of the pair's friendship are rife in Freud's first autobiography, I Am The Voice Left From Drinking, and provide a telling insight to the life and times of one of the nation's finest.
The digitally remastered re-issue of Breaking Silence is available now directly via Sandman, and comes with deluxe packaging and a 28-page booklet stuffed with rare images, replete with liner notes from long-time music journo Ian McFarlane.
