Featuring James Holden, Factory Floor, Addison Groove and many more!

More James Holden More James Holden

The electro-centred Subsonic Music Festival has taken the worldliest of bents in curating its 2014 line-up, the first round of which has now been officially unveiled.

The December prog/ambient/house/live/techno/misc party charge will be led by veteran UK phenomenon James Holden, who has been compelling folks to shake them thangs on dance-floors for the better part of the past fifteen years. In that time, he’s done everything from remix work for the likes of Madonna and Radiohead to running a record label (Border Community) as well as garnering an unshakeable reputation for his visually and aurally diverse and engaging live performances.

Appearing alongside the esteemed Mr Holden will be fellow Brits and luminaries Factory Floor, who’ve made a pretty serious impact around the world in a relatively short time, having only emerged into the wider popular conscious with their self-titled 2013 release via the renowned DFA Records. With a slew of festival slots already behind them, Factory Floor are set to join Subsonic from a place of experience and assuredness, which bodes very, very well indeed for local punters.

Not to paint the picture of some kind of Anglophilia on the part of Subsonic, but it’s just coincidental that line-up co-stars Addison Groove also hails from the merry old United Kingdom, taking a page out of Meghan Trainor’s book by his express purpose of being ‘all about that bass’. It’s core-shaking stuff even through piddling headphones, so imagine the kinds of movements your bones are going to experience come December 5-7.

Mixing things up now, Detroit-bred maestro Mike Huckaby will be making the trip to show off the skills he’s used on remixes for folks such as Deepchord, Juan Atkins, Vladislav Delay, Pole, and tonnes of others, while still finding the time to run not just the one (Sorry, James Holden) but two labels – S Y N T H and Deep Transportation. An eclectic mind stuffed with eclectic skills? Sounds like a party to us from here.

Subsonic will also be graced with the Berlin-based talents of Ellen Allien, who has so many talents – from producing to DJing to running a fashion label, a record label, being a radio host and a generally impressive performer and composer – that we could fill the afternoon just rattling them off. Instead of doing that, though, we’ll just say that Allien is something of an institution among our Germanic electro-enthusiast friends, and you’d be exceedingly well advised to go and check her out as part of your Subsonic experience.

Backing up that impressive core will be fellow global imports Eli Verveine (Switzerland), Pepperpot (France) and Alexkid (Germany), all of whom have graced Aussie shores in the past and further solidify Subsonic as an extremely worthwhile undertaking on which to splash your cash and time.
