The Church Headline Mullum Music Festival Line-Up

The Aussie icons feature alongside more than 80 other incredible acts

It’s a case of lucky number seven for the Mullum Music Festival, which celebrates its seventh year in 2014 and has fittingly put together a massive line-up of more than 80 acts from home and abroad to help celebrate in style, topped by none other than Aussie alt-rock icons The Church.

“The Church are one of the great trailblazing bands and they’re still creating new music,” Festival Director Glenn Wright said in a statement. “They’re inspiring and original and fit in perfectly with a festival that focuses for a large part on exciting, emerging artists.”

Emerging they ain’t, but The Church definitely have the “exciting” part of things down, which is no small feat considering the company they’ll be rubbing shoulders with at Mullum — proudly presented by The Music — including Glastonbury alumni The Bombay Royale, many-faceted Melburnian ensemble o’ energy Saskwatch, and New Orleans-bred Americana from Hurray For The Riff Raff.

Further filling out the ranks will be South African Afro-folk artist Bongeziwe Mabandla, rising Aussie bluesman Kim Churchill, the ever-enticing Mia Dyson, and ubiquitous guitar-slingers Husky, with Mullum Music Festival first-timers coming in the shape of Hiatus Kaiyote vocalist Nai Palm, ascendant Brissy act Holy Holy, and the sublime sounds of Frank Yamma, just to name a few of the talents on offer this November.

This year will be the first for the Cat Empire’s Harry James Angus as festival patron, and though he follows in the mighty footsteps of the incomparable Mama Kin, the round-up of music, theatre, circus, performance, workshops, food, and a touch of psychedelia all converge to create a weekend worth at least a few hearty chin-strokes of interest.

“Every year, Mullum Music Festival shows me wonderful artists I haven't seen before, and the artists that I have seen before doing things they don't usually do - playing in the street parade, spinning out spontaneous collaborations, singing with the local choir,” Angus said in a statement. “I'm proud to be the patron of a festival that does such a great job getting its artists out of the industry and into the community, where music belongs.”

The Mullum Music Festival sets itself apart from the remainder of the year’s busy event calendar with its all-inclusive aesthetic, welcoming everyone from singles to families to enjoy a mad spread of entertainment and activities among some gorgeous half-century-old architecture and heartwarming community vibes.

This year’s event will be held from November 20-23 in Mullumbimby, north NSW. Tickets will set you back anywhere from $58-$82 (plus discounts for the kids), which is still more reasonable than a tank of petrol.

See the event webpage or our dedicated Mullum Music Festival page for more news and information as the event draws near.
