The New Terminator Film Has A Title And Release Date

Franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger shared the news via social media this morning

The much-discussed and curiously awaited Terminator franchise reboot has had its title and release date officially revealed over social media by its star, veteran Hollywood toughman Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Getting the message out across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Schwarzenegger thanked the cast and crew of the film, which has just wrapped shooting, and revealed that the fifth Terminator film instalment would be titled Terminator: Genisys, and is set for July 1, 2015, release in the States.

As Inquistr notes, although fans have been conjecturally referring to the movie as Terminator: Genesis for some time (largely due to the appearance of a Twitter handle using that title), this marks the first official confirmation from someone directly involved with the production that it would indeed be titled as such, albeit with Hollywood's approximation of hip spelling attached to it.

"I want to thank the cast and crew of Terminator Genisys for a fantastic shoot," Schwarzenegger elaborated in his post on Facebook. "It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup - we couldn't have done it without you.

"I can't wait to see our finished project and I know we'll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I'll be back."

Terminator Genisys, directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game Of Thrones), co-stars Game Of Thrones icon Emilia Clarke as The Greatest Human In The Terminator Universe, Sarah Connor — no small feat, considering Linda Hamilton's definitive portrayal of the character in T2 (and The Terminator, but to a lesser extent); certainly, co-Game Of Thrones star Lena Headey had a hell of a time convincing sceptics during The Sarah Connor Chronicles' short run. The Chicago Code's Jason Clarke will star as humankind's Great White Hope, John Connor, while ascendant Aussie action-man Jai Courtney also joins the cast, to play Sarah's baby daddy Kyle Reese, as does former Doctor Matt Smith.

There are many pressing questions about the fifth Terminator film — not least of all being "wait, so do Terminators age?" — but we'll have to wait till mid-next year to find out.

In the meantime, why not enjoy the SADDEST FUCKING CLOSING SCENE IN AN ACTION MOVIE EVER?
